Sometimes you need a plant that will treat you well, that won’t wilt the first time you forget to water and won’t fall to pieces when you love it just a little too much. Enter the Calathea Peacock. Don’t let the pretentious leaves fool you, like a peacock, it’s all show. This is one of the easier calatheas to manage. 

As the green-striped and wine-colored leaves mature, expect the stripes to become more pronounced and vibrant. It stays more compact and bushy, reaching about two feet in height, making it the perfect plant for smaller spaces.

Light: Medium to bright indirect light
Water: Medium water requirement. Water just as the first few inches of soil dry out
Temperature: Average household temperature
Humidity: Slightly higher, above 65%
Pets: Generally safe for pets
