Swamp milkweed is a Florida native that's ideal for butterfly gardens. Milkweed is the only plant that monarch butterflies lay their eggs on, and the only plant their caterpillars will consume. Come winter, the plant will most likely die back; if not, give it a hard prune and it will re-bloom come spring. It can also easily reseed.
